Welcome back!

Hi everyone,

We hope that you have had a lovely half term with your families.

This week

This week we have started a new book which is called ‘The Crocodile Who Didn’t Like Water’.

Water

Do you like water? If you do, what is your favourite thing to do with water? I like to paint with water outside.

Can you write the sounds we have learnt this week?

Also, I like to see what can float and sink with objects at home.

Why don’t you have a go at home and post a picture?

We would love to some pictures of your idea on the RL blog.

We retold the story using the story map and actions. image

Crocodiles

We used Google to find out facts about crocodiles.

Did you know that crocodiles are reptiles. What do you know about crocodiles?

I have found a crocodile story and yoga session that you could try it is called ‘Colonel crockles the crocodile’.

Firework Night

We have learnt about Bonfire night and the importance of being safe around fireworks. Here are some pictures of our firework art.

Next week

On Friday you will get both a story book that you can enjoy together as well as a coloured reading scheme book. This will allow the children to use their phonic knowledge by pointing and saying the sounds with support. This is the first step of beginning to read.

Now that your child has their own reading book here are some helpful tips to make your child’s reading journey positive….

  • Set aside a specific time for reading every day and make reading a priority. Try not to do the reading when you are both tired!
  • Look at the front cover first – what do they think it might be about?
  • Encourage your child to read to you. Follow the words with your finger and sound out the words (c-a-t: cat) See if they can pronounce each sound and then blend them together
  • Be positive. Praise your child for trying hard at their reading. Let them know it is alright to make mistakes.

Parent workshops

We look forward to reading your comments in their reading record books. We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Hi everyone,

We have been very busy in RL this week as we created our woodland area. The children helped to create the animals and leaves for our upstairs role play area.

Can you create your own patterns?

RL

Hi everyone,

We have had another fun week in RL. We have read the book ‘A bit lost’ written by Chris Haughton. The children have enjoyed the story with the lost baby owl.

Can you remember what animals the squirrel thinks is the baby owl’s mummy?

In class we have decided to create our own forest role play area. The children have helped to make the trees and leaves for our forest. The children decided which size box would be best for the RL owl and we created a nest for him.

Maths

This week in Maths we have been comparing sizes, mass and capacity. We have been using the mathematical words – big, little, large, small, tall, long and short.

Which animal is the longest and which animal is the shortest?

In RL this week we have been building tall and short towers with blocks.

Phonics

This week in Phonics we have been learning the sounds ‘i, n, m, d’ Do you know the names of these items that begin with the sounds that we have been learning this week?

We look forward to seeing pictures of your home learning on our blog. We hope you have a great weekend.
